Grown at the highest elevation of our Pinot Noir site, Passiflora’s free spirit carves its own path defying traditional notions of what Pinot Noir can be. As the treble to Luxuria’s deep base, Passiflora’s lithe texture and vibrant acidity capture the ethereal spirit and eccentric voice of Antiquum Farm in a stunningly elegant profile. The 2023 Passiflora opens with whimsical floral tones of wildflower and violet interwoven with soft cocoa and rich tropical notes. Bright notes of sun-ripened raspberries and pomegranate offer a feeling of soaring over the vineyard.
After slowly ripening on the high slope of our vineyard, Passiflora is harvested by hand around the time you are wondering where your teenage kids are. Upon arrival in the cellar, the fruit is gently destemmed and transferred to open top vessels where it is allowed to cold soak for four days. Spontaneous fermentation occurs with wild yeast filling the cellar with aromas of passionfruit, Fruit Strip Gum, and Hi-C Punch. For all those 80’s babies out there, it’s a heady time. Upon completion of fermentation, the wine is gently pressed and barreled into French Oak (33% new) and then left on the lees for ten months.
